Families can expect the financial aid process to include completing forms like the FAFSA and, in some cases, the CSS Profile, along with reviewing each college’s specific requirements and deadlines. Financial aid is designed to help bridge the gap between the cost of college and what a family can reasonably contribute. There are four main types of financial aid: grants and scholarships, which do not need to be repaid; work-study, which allows students to earn money while enrolled; and loans, which must be repaid over time. As you explore the financial aid process and the attached presentation, you’ll learn how these options work together to make college more affordable and how to take the right steps to access available funding.

Information You Need to Fill out the FAFSA

Your FSA ID, which you can create on fsaid.ed.gov. Note that students and parents will need to create their own FSA ID and keep it private.
Your social security number and driver’s license, and/or alien registration number if you are not a U.S. citizen.
Your federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned.
Your parents’ income tax returns, W-2 forms, and 1040 forms if you’re a dependent.
Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable).
Records of untaxed income (if applicable).
Title IV Institution Codes for each school you’re applying to, which you can find from the FAFSA federal school code search.

Selective Service Registration

What is Selective Service Registration?

Selective Service Registration is required by law as the first part of a fair and equitable system that, if authorized by the President and Congress, would rapidly provide personnel to the Department of Defense while at the same time providing an alternative service program for conscientious objectors.

How can men register?

You can register online at sss.gov, at any U.S. Post Office, or by calling 1.888.655.1825 (bilingual support available).
