Where
Houston High School, 9755 Wolf River Blvd, Germantown, TN 38139, USA

Buses will drop off students at the drop off loop on the East side of campus near the auditorium and varsity gym beginning at 9am.

9:00-9:20:  Mustang Spirit Welcome (*note that we will keep the spirit going until our groups have arrived–their may be some late arrivals–spirit organizers, please see the list of HRs and check them off as they make it to campus)

  • As students are getting off the bus, they will be welcomed by some Mustang fanfare; student greeters, possibly live music/performers, and other surprises.

  • As your HR classes exit the buses, your boxes of lunches need to be handed to our Lunch Crew student volunteers, clearly labeled and in a receptacle by Home Rooms.  They will be transporting your lunches to the appropriate location for the picnic so that they are easily located when it’s time for lunch.

  • Parent Chaperones, HR Teachers, & Mustang Mentors: Usher our 7th grade guests into the varsity gym, and quickly sort them into their travel groups for the sessions.  Mustang Mentors, make signs, display them.

9:15-9:25: Mustang Spirit Pep Rally

  • The 7th grade experience will begin with a brief Houston High pep rally. This will begin as timely as possible–so that we don’t cut into any session time.

  • 7th grade staff, if your bus is late, you may miss portions of this!

  • We are adding as much padding to this portion as possible, But will we begin dismissal from the gym at 9:35am!

  • One of our larger sessions (The Club Fair) begins setting up in the varsity gym promptly at 9:45am.

The Sessions

Here’s the overall schedule:

Session One: 9:45-10:05

Session Two: 10:10-10:30

Session Three: 10:35-10:55

Session Four: 11:00-11:20

Session Five: 11:25-11:45

  • Session Leaders will plan 20-minute sessions for approximately 22-24 7th graders.  Each group will be traveling with a parent chaperone, a 7th grade teacher, and two Mustang Mentors.  Once we build the schedule, you may deliver this session four times or *five.  We will communicate with you quickly if you are doing five sessions.

  • There are only five minutes built in for travel between classes, so punctuality is important.

  • Take a look at these amazing session descriptions.

  • Session Leaders, please add items to the notes in the document above if you need our planning team to be aware of needs for students, locations, or materials.  We will start ordering items SOON!

  • HR Teachers, Mustang Mentors, and Parent Chaperones will be supplied with a detailed session schedule and map.  This will include four classes and an opportunity to visit the Club Fair.

  • There will be a 360 Photo Booth in the center of the gym during the Club Fair.  Your schedule will indicate, by group, when to tour the clubs and when to participate in the photo booth.  This will also be announced by microphone in the gym! Students will use the photo booth in groups of 3-4 students to allow time for all that wish to participate to do so.

  • The photo booth will be available to high school student volunteers and HHS staff from 11:45-12:10.

11:45-12:20 The Mustang Corral Picnic

  • Students will be ushered to the football field for lunch.  They will need to find their HR spot on the field.  Students’ Lunches will be delivered to a specific yard line, by HR teacher, alphabetically. See the map here.  We will indicate this location on each students’ name tag to help them locate their lunch quickly.

  • The rain location for lunch will be the PE gym.

  • Mustang Mentors will pack a lunch and join students for the picnic (so they get a chance to eat!)

  • There will be some yard games available during the picnic if students finish eating lunch before it’s time for the Mustang Farewell in the auditorium.

  • By 12:15, we need teachers and chaperones to assist students in throwing away trash and preparing for departure from the football field.

  • At 12:20, HR teachers will travel with their own students to the auditorium.  Mustang Mentors will continue to assist the 7th Grade HR teachers they were grouped with during the sessions, though the students will be different. Here’s a map.

12:30-1:00 The Mustang Farewell

  • The goal is to have students seated by HR in the auditorium by 12:40pm.

  • The Superintendent will announce the winners of a prize raffle at 12:40pm.

  • At 12:50pm, the HHS TV staff will show a short hype film to all the students.

1:00 Bus Dismissal

  • Dr. Suchman, the HHS bus administrator, will receive buses and communicate that information with the Superintendent’s team via text.

  • We will call each HR to dismiss in an orderly fashion from a microphone in the auditorium to the same drive loop that the buses dropped students off.

  • Each HR teacher will receive a labeled box with any swag/t-shirts as they exit the auditorium for distribution once back on the RES/HMS campuses.
