Clubs Offered Before & After School

The 30+ ACT Service Club celebrates students who have achieved a composite score of 30 or higher on the ACT, recognizing their accomplishment and encouraging them to give back through peer tutoring. Members participate in service hours, sharing their talents to support other students' academic success. Tutoring subjects are self-selected, allowing students to assist in areas where they feel most confident. 

To be eligible for membership, students must have a composite ACT score of 30 or above and complete service hours by tutoring peers in their chosen subjects. Students who have received ISS, OSS, or two honor infractions are ineligible for membership in this or any other honor society.

The American Chemistry Society “Chem Club” at Houston High School provides students with the opportunity to engage in extracurricular, hands-on experiences as science ambassadors. This club fosters collaboration among peers and underclassmen, enhancing their chemical education beyond the classroom.

The Badminton Club seeks to establish a competitive environment for students who enjoy the sport, bringing together players to improve their skills and enjoy the game. While the club primarily focuses on preparing athletes for competitions, it also welcomes those who wish to play for leisure. Although it's too late to register for competitions this year, the club's goal is to help members train and get in shape for next year’s competitive season.

The Beautifully Unique Club is a community service and female empowerment organization dedicated to helping women feel powerful and confident in their own skin. The club hosts speakers who share insights on self-confidence and personal empowerment, fostering a supportive environment for growth and connection.

The BETA Club promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character, service, and leadership among elementary and secondary school students. 

The requirements are:

• Current Sophomore or Junior
• 3.8 Cumulative GPA
• No more than one minor discipline infraction, with no current incidents of ISS or OSS this year
• The application must be completed and submitted by the deadline. (announced when applications open)

The BeybladeX Club is a fun and energetic space for students to battle, connect, and embrace friendly competition. Members learn strategy, good sportsmanship, and the excitement of fast-paced gameplay. Each blader brings their own gear to compete—but don’t worry, spare gear is available for anyone who wants to join the action.

The Black Student Association (BSA) Club provides a safe space for students to build a supportive community, offering resources and fostering connections. The club emphasizes engagement and academic excellence while creating a sense of family among members.

The Board Games Club is a safe space for students to play games, socialize, and develop patience while setting goals. The club aims to explore and enjoy a variety of games together.

The College Prep Club aims to create a supportive, collaborative environment where seniors can guide underclassmen to help them stand out as college applicants. The club provides alumni resources, workshops, and peer-to-peer advice to help students navigate the college admissions process before they apply.

The Computer Science Club is open to all students with a passion for or interest in computer science. The club focuses on cultivating an interest in technology through topics like computing simulations, coding, and cybersecurity.

The Houston High School Computer Science Honor Society encourages student enthusiasm for computer science, honors academic excellence, and promotes service. Members and affiliates are committed to three core values: Equity, Service, and Excellence.

To be eligible for membership, students must have completed at least one rigorous computer science course with a minimum 3.5 GPA. Selected members are expected to exemplify these principles, as outlined in the Society’s constitution, and agree to pay annual dues.

An extension of the National Youth Cyber Education Program, Cyber Patriots Club is a STEM initiative by the Air & Space Forces Association. This program was designed to inspire K-12 students to explore careers in cybersecurity and other STEM fields critical to the nation’s future.

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management at high schools and colleges worldwide.

The Diabetes Awareness Club is a supportive space for students to learn about and raise awareness of diabetes. The club aims to educate others, promote healthy lifestyle choices, and support those affected by the condition through outreach and advocacy efforts.

FCA focuses on serving local communities by engaging, equipping, and empowering coaches and athletes to come together through Christian fellowship to inspire those around them. Students will have an engaging environment that helps them to pursue their best athletically, academically, and spiritually. Meetings are held Wednesday mornings.

The award-winning HHS German Folk Dance Troupe choreographs a new dance each year, showcasing their talents to the community and teaching students teamwork, responsibility, and confidence.

This after-school program empowers previously selected students to serve as GMSD Ambassadors, promoting the school district and building connections within the Germantown community. Ambassadors participate in local government events, represent their schools at community gatherings, and may be featured in the Student Spotlight series. Organized into teams led by the Ambassador Executive Council, students develop leadership and advocacy skills while focusing on Academics, Athletics, Student Life, or the Arts.

The purpose of HHS Community Service Club is to give back to smaller service based organizations in the Memphis area, especially community service groups overlooked by bigger clubs. We find opportunities in the Memphis area and have people volunteer in a variety of areas.

The HHS Friends of Water Club is a student-led club at Houston High School working to raise $5,000 in one school year to sponsor a clean water system for a school in rural India by partnering with Community Pure Water's Friends of Water campaign. Students will be able to raise money through their personal fundraising goals. Beyond raising money, our goal is to build a personal connection with the students we support by sharing letters, artwork, and stories across cultures. We believe every child deserves clean water, not just for survival, but for the chance to learn, grow, and reach their full potential. We meet after school once a month.

Houston Hearts will be a club dedicated to assessing and preparing for emergencies, especially cardiac arrest. This club will allow for Houston to become a heart safe school under Project Adam.  This club will be made up of trained students that are dedicated to spreading awareness of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).

Hugs From Houston is a student-led organization dedicated to providing warm messages to children and healthcare workers in local hospitals, including St. Jude and Le Bonheur. Club members create heartfelt cards for kids, aiming to bring smiles to the faces of both children and adults alike.

The Junior Classical League’s purpose is to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the language, literature, mythology, and culture of ancient Greece and Rome and to impart an understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of Classical antiquity. Our organization is open to current, future, and former Latin students and all who are interested in the ancient world. We compete and excel in many local, state, and national competitions.

The Youth in Government Club at Houston High School is part of the YMCA Youth in Government program. Through this program, students research, draft, and present bills, which they will showcase at a student-led conference alongside peers from across Tennessee.

“The Tennessee YMCA Youth in Government Program is an annual event that gives high school and middle school students hands-on experience with state government. Each year, over 2,500 students from around the state gather at the State Capitol, assuming roles as senators, representatives, justices, lawyers, department commissioners, lobbyists, or members of the press corps.”
