The American Chemistry Society “Chem Club” at Houston High School provides students with the opportunity to engage in extracurricular, hands-on experiences as science ambassadors. This club fosters collaboration among peers and underclassmen, enhancing their chemical education beyond the classroom.

Art Remedy “Blossom Art” is an art wellness club that aims to educate students and the community about the intersection of art and mental health. Our mission is to highlight the importance of creative outlets in maintaining emotional well-being and to foster a deeper understanding of how artistic expression can help mental health through various projects, workshops, activities, and volunteer work.

The Crafting/DIY Club is for students who enjoy creating and learning new skills. Focused on exploring various crafts—from painting and building to sewing and more—the club encourages creative expression without limits. The Houston High School Supper Club was formed after rising seniors took the initiative to form a cooking-centered club. With their shared interest in food and considering scheduling limitations, the exclusive club is limited to a small group of eager diners that are interested in trying new foods and participating in cultural dining experiences. In-school club meetings are used to make suggestions for restaurant outings as well as to make reservations to schedule after school suppers. The club enables members who may initially be timid about patronizing a new restaurant or sampling foods alone to share a meal with others.

Horizons club works to build long-term partnerships with students, families, communities, and schools to create experiences that inspire the joy of learning. Students in Horizons get to help foster and encourage these relationships to further the educational growth of those within their community.

The Jewish Student Association (J Club) aims to educate the non-Jewish student body about Jewish history, culture, and relevant issues. It provides the Jewish student community with meaningful connections, resources, and a safe space, offering educational support related to their culture and religion.

The Math Club serves as a hub for students of all grade levels to come together and share their appreciation for math. In addition to discussing various topics and interests, we provide assistance to those who may need help understanding concepts taught in class or outside of it. Members will also have the opportunity to compete in the AMC 12, a national math competition.

Play Like a Girl fosters an inclusive community built around female athletes. This club allows young women to come together to support and lift one another up. Members participate in activities related to the mental side of the game to grow closer to one another and work on their self confidence.

The Spanish Club celebrates Spanish culture through field trips, food, and games. The goal of this club is to expose students to not only the Spanish culture and language throughout the world, but in their own community as well.

The students in the Student Government Association serve as advocates for the student body. By participating in this club, students have the opportunity to help their classmates by helping to create a welcoming environment and receiving feedback from the student body.  Through social media, school dances, pep rallies, spirit week themes, SGA also helps to facilitate events for HHS. This teaches students accountability, academic integrity, and leadership skills.

The Technology Student Association (TSA) enhances personal development, leadership, and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), whereby members apply and integrate these concepts through intracurricular activities, competitions, and related programs.

The Youth in Government Club at Houston High School is part of the YMCA Youth in Government program. Through this program, students research, draft, and present bills, which they will showcase at a student-led conference alongside peers from across Tennessee.

“The Tennessee YMCA Youth in Government Program is an annual event that gives high school and middle school students hands-on experience with state government. Each year, over 2,500 students from around the state gather at the State Capitol, assuming roles as senators, representatives, justices, lawyers, department commissioners, lobbyists, or members of the press corps.”
