The Houston Band draws on inspiration from dragonflies for its marching season showcase

After a very successful band camp this summer, the Houston High School Band is starting the school year off strong with their marching show entitled, The Odyssey. The overall theme of dragonflies is implemented throughout the show through the elaborate costumes of not only the marching students, but the color guard as well. This is also the first year the band will take on the challenge of performing with immense props; these large props take the shapes of the sun, moon, and grass.

“Adding props to the already complicated show really adds an extra level of difficulty and makes the show as a whole more challenging, but it’s nothing we can’t accomplish and execute skillfully,” explains drum major, Yuka Yang. The Houston Band is working hard in preparation for their upcoming competition this September, and hopes to bring home the first place trophy.
