About Houston

Welcome to Houston High School, home of the Mustangs. Established in 1989, our 70 acre campus is home to approximately 2,000 students in grades 9-12. Located in Germantown, TN, Houston provides students with incredible opportunities in academics, athletics, community involvement, and fine arts. With students from diverse ethnic, racial, religious, and socioeconomic groups, Houston Mustangs are able to learn not only in the classroom, but also through their relationships with their fellow students. Our administration and staff consists of 120 certified personnel, 80% of whom have a master's degree or higher, and each Houston faculty member is ready and equipped to encourage and prepare our students are they move through their high school careers.

Our academic year is 180 days divided between two semesters, and each school day consists of seven fifty minute long classes. However, through Early Post Secondary Opportunities (EPSOs), many of our students complete their regular academic day early to move into a Work-Based learning period. This provides our Mustangs the chance to work in the field that is consistent with their chosen academic pathway. Students can also choose from 28 Advanced Placement (AP), 17 Dual Enrollment (DE), and 33 Honors courses to pursue a high level of academic rigor. With close to 100 different colleges and universities attended upon graduation, students leave Houston High School well prepared for what might come next.

Students at Houston are offered many extracurricular opportunities as well. Houston offers over eighty different clubs for students to participate in, and most Mustangs are involved in at least two clubs. In Fine Arts, students can choose to participate in orchestra, band, multiple choirs, and theater productions. Our Fine Arts programs are recognized throughout the state, winning multiple awards each year in their field. Our Athletics programs have earned Houston ninety-nine State Championships, and with our continued growth and success, we are well on our way to achieving our 100th. We encourage our students to uplift each other and pursue their personal best in all that they participate in.

As a part of Germantown Municipal School District, we are always working to inspire personal excellence among our students. This year, we are especially focused on our students as we ask them, "What's your Horsepower?" We hope that each Mustang at Houston High School recognizes their unique talents and abilities, and they will leave Houston well equipped for their future.
