The Houston High School Master Plan

Houston High School is sharing the Master Plan for the future of our campus. With updates to classroom spaces, social spaces, athletics, and fine arts, this plan allows for all of our Mustangs to have a place to belong. As our students continue to excel, gaining recognition on the state, regional, and national level in everything from student life to orchestra and football, we want to provide our students with a true home away from home. With this Master Plan, students will be able to truly feel unlimited in both their academic and their extracurricular endeavors. Hear from board members, program directors, community members, and of course students to see how this plan came together and the different visions that helped create this future for our Mustangs.

The Houston's Band The Pale Blue Dot

Director of Bands Kevin Carpenter walks through the steps that it takes to create the band's show each year. For this season, the idea came from the photograph "The Pale Blue Dot" that voyager one took in 1990. Director Carpenter shares, "This show focus on two contrasting things. The earth is tiny when you zoom out like that, but that doesn't minimize the importance and the experiences of the people on it and the life we get to live together."

Once the concept takes place, music is selected, arrangements are made, drill is written, and everything is fine tuned. In July, students begin learning the show. These students practice for hours and hours, not only music but choreography as well. The Houston Band won multiple awards and recognitions this season for this field show, and you can see how it all came together in our spotlight video!
