Student Spotlight: Zoe Marsh, Houston High School Track & Field and Varsity Softball

Zoe Marsh is a junior at Houston High School, and this spring she is balancing both Track & Field and Varsity Softball. On Friday, April 14 at Day 1 of the Houston Classic, Zoe set a new school record in the 3200, running a 10:58.87. She achieved this new record after having just finished a softball game, and this is just one of the events that she competed in for Track & Field. Just a few days later, she was then recognized in the Commercial Appeal for having two hits, two runs, and two stolen bases in the softball Houston vs. Fayette Academy game. The Mustangs won 16-1. This was the second game in a row that Zoe had two stolen bases.

Although Zoe excels in both of the sports, she says that she hopes to pursue running at the collegiate level. The balancing act is tough, and Zoe wanted to give a special thank you to all those who help her in being able to enjoy both sports. She thanked her coaches, parents, and teammates for supporting her and allowing her to competitively pursue two sports that she loves. Watch Zoe’s full interview below!

Hi my name is Zoe Marsh, and I'm a junior at Houston High School. I ran the 3200, the 1600, and the 4x4. And in the 3200, it was on Friday night it was after a softball game, and I was trying to break 11 in the school records and I did it so I had another girl running with me that helped me I also get the time I wanted and it went really well. I don't process it until the next day if I'm being honest like I'll see the time my coaches will tell me what I got but I also had another race that I was on that weekend so I didn't want to like you know just be like okay I'm done I wanted to like focus on the next race for the next day but when I, there'll be times when I think about it and how I really did that and you know thank goodness it happened. It's not really, it's not easy at all if I'm being honest. Most of the time I go to like the softball practices and the games like over running because I can just do workout in the morning or like I'll do it after the practice or the game so I have a 7th period study hall and I have a note that I can like leave early so like right when 6th period ends, I can leave, and I normally do a lot of my runs and like smaller works during 7th period, but if I have a bigger workout, I'll do it like in the morning before school on the track or just like after at the very end. Both of them are good in their own ways but track is definitely more I know it's a team sport but like individually base. There's more of like a team aspect in softball just like working together with your team, and track there's also team aspects but it's more like you do your part and if you do your job then you're good but I definitely want to run in college. Softball is really fun though, and I like them both I definitely want to shout out my coaches for one Coach Forest and Coach Rachel and then I want to shoutout my softball coaches Coach Tori and Coach Chris because they're also very supportive of me juggling, all my coaches are very supportive of me like juggling 2 sports, and then I also want to thank my parents and my teammates. All of them are amazing.
