StangFest 2024: Making Wishes and Memories

Houston High hosted its second annual StangFest this Sunday on the HHS football field. The event’s purpose was twofold this year: to bring the GMSD community together for a fun, festive fall event and to fundraise for the Mid-South Make A Wish Foundation. The goal was to raise enough money to help grant a wish in honor of our peer at HHS, Gates Mims, who is currently fighting cancer.

On Sunday, the fall-themed event was a huge success with many families, friends, and students in attendance, featuring various games, tournaments, and fun contests. This year, SGA invited over 12 HHS organizations to participate in the festival, with each group hosting a tent filled with exciting activities and opportunities for attendees. From spikeball to bounce houses, the event offered great fun for everyone.

With dozens of volunteers' support, the celebration ran seamlessly, showcasing the strength of collaboration between the student body, faculty, and families. Moreover, the band performances added a spirited touch, creating a lively atmosphere. Combined with fun festivities, the energy was off the charts.

In total, 45 tickets were sold, raising $450 for the Make A Wish Foundation. The funds will help fulfill Gates Mims' wish and bring hope to children facing difficult medical challenges. Overall, StangFest proved to be a perfect blend of fun and philanthropy, uniting our community for a great cause.
