A new task force is laying the foundation for an initiative designed to help Houston High School seniors transition from graduation to the workforce. The collaborative effort, led by Houston High’s Office of College and Career, Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD), the Germantown Chamber of Commerce, and Leadership Germantown, aims to equip students with the soft skills needed for career success.
The task force held its first meeting last week to plan a “Future-Ready” day—a hands-on conference featuring sessions on essential workplace skills, such as effective interviewing techniques and strategies for excelling as an employee. The group is also exploring additional session topics to provide a comprehensive experience.
“This initiative represents a meaningful step in preparing our students for life beyond high school,” said Houston High Principal Hallie Ross. “By connecting them with local professionals and real-world experiences, we’re bridging the gap between education and career readiness.”
In addition to the conference, seniors will have the chance to participate in job-shadowing opportunities with Germantown-area businesses, gaining firsthand insights into potential career paths and building valuable connections within the community.
Local businesses interested in supporting this program can sign up later this month when registration opens. Participation offers a unique opportunity to mentor the next generation of professionals while fostering a stronger link between education and the workforce.
