Last week, the HHS Theater Department whisked audiences away into the magical world of Alice with its captivating production of Alice in Wonderland, staged from November 8 to 11. Directed by Theater Director Mrs. Christie, this show was a collaborative achievement shaped by the talent and dedication of every actor, backstage crew member, and designer involved. From the colorful sets to the playful costumes, each element contributed to an enchanting experience that delighted audiences of all ages.
For two morning matinees, Mrs. Christie invited young students from Forest Hill Elementary, Farmington Elementary, and HMS 7th grade. This initiative extended the joys of live theater and the charm of Alice in Wonderland to the wider GMSD community. The theater buzzed with excitement as these students were not only swept up in the whimsy of Wonderland but also had the unique chance to see their peers bring this beloved story to life.
Rehearsals began in early October, with the cast working tirelessly to craft performances filled with energy and personality. Each performer brought their own unique flair to their role, adding a vibrant mix of individuality and creativity that made every scene fresh and engaging. This collaborative spirit, woven into every rehearsal, created a production where self-expression and teamwork brought Wonderland to life in a dynamic manner.
Designer Pam Hurley completed the enchanting Wonderland set weeks ahead of opening night, creating a vivid backdrop for the characters’ journey. The backstage crew ensured every performance flowed seamlessly, while costumes, lovingly created by cast members’ families, added extra charm to each character. From lighting to scene changes, every detail reflected the dedication of all involved, both on and off the stage.
With the magic of Alice in Wonderland behind them, the HHS Theater cast and crew showed us that stepping “through the looking glass” can be a journey filled with talent, teamwork, and a touch of wonder. After such a memorable adventure, we can’t wait to see where the HHS Theater cast will take us next!
