At HHS, we understand that navigating high school can be an exciting yet challenging experience, and that's why we've narrowed down the top things that you need to know about School Choice, Registration, Course Selection, and the HHS Academies. Whether you're a student new to GMSD, new to Houston, or you are a current HHS student planning your course selections, we've got all the answers you need right here. 

When does School Choice/Open Enrollment close?

GMSD's School Choice/Open Enrollment period closes on February 5, 2024 at 11:59pm CST.

 

When will I find out if I was accepted to GMSD through School Choice/Open Enrollment?

All applications will be processed, and approvals/denials will be mailed by February 26, 2024. 


Is School Choice/Open Enrollment the same as registration for the 2024-2025 school year? 

No, School Choice/Open Enrollment is a transfer request, and registration is enrollment for the school year. More information regarding New Student registration will be available on April 15, 2024. Enrollment/Registration will take place in July 2024.


I received my acceptance letter from the School Choice/Open Enrollment period. Am I registered and enrolled at GMSD now? 

No. Once you have been accepted to a GMSD school through Open Enrollment, you will then have to complete registration. More information regarding New Student registration will be available on April 15, 2024. Enrollment/Registration will take place in July 2024.


If I am currently enrolled, do I need to complete School Choice? 

If you are currently on a transfer student at HHS and did not change your address this school year, you do not need to complete School Choice.

When does registration for the 24-25 school year begin? 

Registration is open for all students on July 1, 2024. 

 

When do shared residency appointments begin?

Families can call for an appointment starting on June 17, 2024. Appointments will start on July 8, 2024. 

 

How much is tuition for the 24-25 school year?

  • For students who live in Shelby County, tuition will be $521.00. 
  • For students who live outside of Shelby County, but in Tennessee, tuition will be $5,406.00.
  • For students who live outside of Tennessee, tuition will be $11,432.00.
  • This fee is paid annually. (Only once a year but is per student. It will be paid in July.)

What are the HHS academies? 

Houston High School offers the Honors Academy and the Leadership Academy, open to both residents of Germantown and non-residents. The Honors Academy provides rigorous academic challenges and opportunities to earn college credits, while the Leadership Academy emphasizes developing leadership skills and serving the community.

 

How do I apply for the HHS academies?

To apply for one of our academies, click here. This page will give you some information about each academy, including what you need to have to start your application, and the application is at the bottom of the page.

 

When are HHS academies applications due? 

Applications for the academies will close on February 5, 2024.

 

When will I find out if I have been accepted to one of the academies?

Acceptance letters for the HHS academies will be sent out by March 8, 2024.

What is course selection?

Students at HHS have a multitude of courses that they can choose from. For each school year, students submit their requests for which courses they are hoping to take.

 

When is course selection? 

HHS course selection for current students will take place on January 29, 2024. For incoming students, course selection will take place in July after online registration is complete.
