Battle of the Books Champions!

Houston High School won this year’s Battle of the Books competition by defeating Collierville, Arlington and Germantown high schools. The Mustangs had four teams to compete winning first place and tying for second. Each team was responsible for reading and being an expert on six books selected from the Volunteer State Award book list.

Houston Swim has strong showing at the State Meet!

The Houston Varsity Swim Team recently returned from the State meet in Nashville. This small group competed against 132 other schools coming in 25th holding their own. The girls Medley Relay finished 13th. The boys and girls 4 x 100 free relays placed 14th and 16th respectively. Sophomore Ella Smith finished 9th in the 50 Free. Congratulations to this young team!

Houston High Pom Squad finishes with a strong season!

On January 29th, the team competed at the Magic City Dance Championship in Birmingham, AL. There they placed First in both the Varsity Hip Hop and Large Varsity Pom categories, and Second in the Varsity Game Day division. They also received the Choreography Award for their Hip Hop routine.

On February 4th & February 5th they competed at the National Dance Team Championship in Orlando, FL. There they moved on to Semi-Finals in Large Varsity Pom for the first time in six years, and then placed 4th in the Nation in the Super Varsity Game Day division - their first time ever competing in that category.

Congratulations to Coach Yorubah Banks, Sponsors Mio Namba and Haley Thomas, and all of the dancers on a very successful season!

Houston Cheer wins National Championship!!

The National High School Cheerleading Championship, held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at The Walt Disney World® Resort on February 11-13, 2022, is the pinnacle of cheerleading competitions for high school cheerleaders across the country. All teams invited to compete at the championship qualified at a regional competition in 2021. Teams were credentialed in cheer safety and leadership training, endorsed by the National Federation of High School Sports (NFHS), as well as in the areas of crowd leading, spirit raising, ambassadorship, athleticism, and entertainment.

Houston High Preview Night- Thursday, January 27, 2022 6-8PM

Our team at Houston High School have joined forces with our student Mustang Mentors to present a safely-distanced, in-person event that will personalize your experience on:

Thursday, January 27th from 6pm-8pm
We are offering several informational sessions at the in-person event. You and your child will go to a total of four sessions based on their specified level of interest indicated in the registration link. Following the tour night, a video/virtual version of each session will be emailed to all attendees. So, you won't have to 'miss' anything!
